The Town Clerk is the keeper of all government records. The Clerk is the chief election officer: organizes polls and poll workers, maintains voting equipment, prepares ballots for town elections, and resolves election/voter problems. At Town Meetings, the Town Clerk assists the Moderator, records town meeting minutes, submits bylaw changes to the state attorney general for approval, prepares legal notice of changes to bylaws, and certifies town meeting votes and appropriations.
The Town Clerk conducts the annual town census, registers voters, certifies nomination papers and voters petitions, and engages in voter education.
The Town Clerk maintains the official town bulletin board and the calendar for the scheduling of meetings of any town board, commission or committee (including subcommittees). Pursuant to MGL Chapter 39, Section 23B, such meetings are open to the public and must be held in a building accessible to the public.
